Dr. Payne was formerly IV staff in California where he met his wife, Janet, a UCSC alumna from Merrill College. They then served unofficially with the IFES in Mexico before returning to California where Peter got a Ph.D. in philosophy from Claremont Graduate University in So. California. They then moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where he served with the grad/faculty ministry in IV at the U. of Michigan. In 2007 they moved back to the Santa Cruz area to help with Peter's special needs younger brother. At that time he left IV staff and together with Janet started a non-profit, the Institute for Credible Christianity (see below). In 2007 they started the Graduate Christian Fellowship at UCSC. Both while with IV and to the present, Peter and Janet serve the European IFES movements a month a year speaking by invitation. At UCSCPeter facilitates a weekly reading/discussion group, open to everyone, called the Philosophy, Science and Christianity Discussion. (Janet, has MAs in Early Childhood Education and in TESOL [English for non-native speakers]. She has ministered extensively with international students, including several years with IV's I-Student Ministry.)
